When I was just starting out writing songs, chords were super mysterious to me. They carry so much emotional weight and create a scaffolding for the melody to play around with. But, I didn’t know how they were built, which made it hard to write melodies over them with anything but my ear.
That’s not a bad thing, but knowing the chord you're playing and how it’s built gives you a deeper understanding of your music and how to make it do what you want it to. In this video, I’m teaching you my super quick shorthand to figure out the notes in any chord and make sure it sounds good in the key.
Make sure to comment below the video with what you thought of my shorthand!
